Why You're Not Making Progress on Your Passion Project (and How to Fix It)
Let's face it, we've all been there. We start a passion project with the best of intentions, vowing to ourselves that we'll finally make the time to do X, Y, or Z. But then, life happens. We get busy at work, and our family commitments take up more time than usual. Before we know it, months have gone by, and we haven't made any progress on our passion project. Sound familiar?
The thing is, it's not enough to just have a passion project; you actually have to do something with it. Otherwise, it's not a passion project—it's an excuse. And if you're looking for excuses, you'll always find them. Trust me, I know from experience.
But if you're looking for solutions, well, that's a different story altogether. Solutions require effort and commitment, but the payoff is so worth it. If you're ready to stop making excuses and start making progress on your passion project, here are three solutions that might help you out:
1. Set a schedule and stick to it.
This one is definitely easier said than done, but it's essential to set aside dedicated time each week to work on your passion project. Whether it's an hour on Sunday mornings or 30 minutes every night after dinner, find a time that works for you and stick to it. Once you get in the habit of setting aside regular time to work on your project, progress will start to come more easily.
2. Find an accountability partner.
If you're having trouble staying motivated or keeping on track with your goals, find someone who can help hold you accountable. This could be a friend, family member, or even a professional coach or mentor. You can also join The weekly Smart Lazy Guy Q&A Webinar. Just knowing that someone else is counting on you to show up and do the work can be enough to help you stay focused and on course.
3. Set smaller goals.
When we're feeling overwhelmed by a project, it can be helpful to break it down into smaller goals so that we don't get discouraged by its size or complexity. Rather than trying to accomplish everything all at once, break your project down into manageable pieces and focus on taking one small step at a time. You'd be surprised how quickly those small steps add up!
No matter what stage you're at in your journey with your passion project, remember that progress is never linear—there will always be ups and downs along the way. The important thing is to keep moving forward towards your goal, even if it's just one small step at a time. "If you want something you've never had," as the saying goes, "you must be willing to do something you've never done." So go out there and do something great!
