Stop Beating Yourself Up! Find a Solution Instead

We've all been there. You didn't do what you said you were going to do. You made a promise to yourself that you would go to the gym three times this week, but you only went once. You told yourself that you would start that project at work, but you keep putting it off.

Now, instead of finding a solution, you're wallowing in self-pity and making excuses. You're telling yourself that you're too busy, that you don't have enough time, or that you just don't have the energy. But the fact is, these are all excuses. The only way to get out of this rut is to find a solution—not beat yourself up for the past.

How to Find a Solution

When it comes to finding solutions, there are two things you need to do: first, accept responsibility for your inaction, and second, ask yourself what circumstances led to your inaction in the first place. Only when you take full responsibility for your choices can you begin to find a solution that works for you.

For example, let's say you didn't go to the gym because you were too tired after work. In this case, the solution might be to wake up earlier so that you can go before work. Or, if you didn't start that project at work because you were procrastinating, the solution might be to set a deadline for yourself and break the project down into smaller tasks.

Remember, excuses only make things worse. If you want to get out of the rut of self-pity and inaction, find a solution instead. Accept responsibility for your choices and ask yourself what circumstances led to those choices. Only then can you begin to find a way forward.
